Walk for the Wild 2022

During 2022 National Wildlife Refuge Week, the Friends of Mashpee NWR held our first Walk for the Wild 5k walk on October 10th at the Jehu Pond Conservation area. The first of what we hope will be an annual signature event, WFTW planning took weeks of focused effort, including publicity, measuring, marking and grooming the route, and other walk details. In the end, both participants and volunteers enjoyed a beautiful Fall day, traversing wooded areas that border estuaries, streams and pine barrens.

Thanks to volunteers Glenn Davis, Nancy Church, MaryKay Fox, Tom Fudala, Neil & Joan Barkin, and Kathleen Pratt for help in planning and hosting the registration/check-in tables, and to Lucinda Keith for documenting the beauty of the trails through her stunning photography. Also, thanks to Refuge Partners Town of Mashpee Conservation and the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve for help clearing and preparing the trails.

T-shirts and signage were provided with the help of local sponsors Cape Cod Five and Roche Bros. Thank you again for your support, and to all those who sponsored our Team!

Walk with us to thrive.
Walk to make sure wildlife thrives.

See you next year!
