About the Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge

What We Do

As a nonprofit volunteer organization, the Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge assists the Partners by supporting their activities in education, research and stewardship projects within the Mashpee Refuge. We conduct fundraising, advocacy and seek grants to support the many wildlife activities and research by the Refuge Partners.

Learn about the many ongoing Refuge Projects that we support throughout the Mashpee Refuge, including pollinator gardens, osprey nests, the Wampanoag Tribal Youth Camp, habitat restoration and other activities in which we play an important role.

The David Ross Palmer Environmental Hero Award

David Ross PalmerThis award is named for the late David Ross Palmer, founder and first president of the Friends (1995-2000), who was a champion of the environment, particularly Waquoit Bay watershed. The Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge, Inc. (FMNWR) initiated this award in honor of David in 2013 to community leaders who demonstrate outstanding dedication and excellent Stewardship & Conservation work within the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge. In the Community

Our programming includes environmental education, working with K-12 local schools, creating native pollinator gardens, building kiosks, and maintaining trails throughout the Mashpee Refuge. We recently published a brochure on how to build the perfect brush pile to support habitat (“rabbitat!”) for the New England Cottontail rabbit.

Our “Wild about Wildlife” lecture series brings awareness to the diversity and life histories of the wildlife species that depend on the Refuge while highlighting the latest research.

Please join us in celebrating the natural wonders of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge, and join the Friends of MNWR organization so you too can… help make a difference in our community.
