From Pitch Pines to Craft Brews: Find Your Wild 2025 Celebrates Nature

Under clear late-summer skies, the Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge welcomed dozens of participants to Find Your Wild 2025, a spirited 5K walk through one of Cape Cod’s most treasured landscapes. The event, part of the refuge’s 30th anniversary celebration, brought together nature lovers, families, and community partners for a day of outdoor adventure and conservation awareness.

Starting at Attaquin Park, walkers set off on September 13th 2025, on a self-guided 3.6-mile route winding through woodlands, ancient roads and cartways, past the Mashpee Wampanoag Museum and the Mashpee River herring run. Along the way, interpretive signs offered insights into the refuge’s diverse habitats and the wildlife that call them home, from migratory songbirds to rare coastal plants.

The finish line led to Naukabout Brewery, where the celebration continued into the afternoon. Guests sipped craft brews, swapped trail stories, and browsed raffle and silent auction tables stacked with prizes from local Cape Cod businesses. Proceeds from the event will fuel habitat restoration, conservation projects, and environmental education programs — protecting the Mashpee Refuge as a sanctuary for both wildlife and people.

“This event is about more than just a walk,” said event coordinator Lucinda Keith. “It’s about connecting people to the land, inspiring stewardship, and celebrating the partnerships that make the refuge thrive.”

The Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1995, is a collaborative effort between federal, state, local, tribal, and nonprofit partners. Spanning nearly 6,000 acres, it protects critical habitats for wildlife while offering the public opportunities for hiking, birdwatching and environmental education.

Find Your Wild 2025 was also a highlight in the refuge’s year-long 30th anniversary celebration. If Saturday’s turnout was any indication, the Mashpee community is more than ready to keep the wild spirit alive.
