Glenn Davis: President, Website Administrator
Glenn joined the Board in November 2019 and is a relatively new year-round resident of the Cape. He is thrilled to live adjacent to the Jehu Pond Conservation Area and be involved with the Friends of MNWR. An avid kayaker, sailor, hiker, photographer and artist, Glenn is a Mashpee Land Steward and volunteers with many environmental groups, including AmeriCorps Seniors, Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Mass Audubon, Mashpee Conservation, and the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance. His professional background is in survey research and data analysis.

MaryKay Fox: Treasurer, Director since September 2004
MaryKay came to the Cape in 1999 from Minnesota to work at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) Ecosystem’s Center after finishing her Masters in Water Resources. She has volunteered several local nonprofits, the New England Aquarium and the Cape Cod Stranding Network. This then led to working at the National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay and rehabilitating their first patient, a cold-stunned Loggerhead sea turtle named “ECO”. Since 2004, she has been on the Board of Director,  as President from 2011 through 2018; and now Treasurer & Social Media Manager.

Lucinda Keith: Clerk
Lucinda joined the FMNWR board in 2022 following her volunteer efforts on several of their projects. While working as an elementary school teacher, she attended several workshops at WEBNERR and integrated Wamponoag tradition, the lifecycle of herring, and pollinator gardens into her math, science and ELA lessons. With the guidance and support from FMNWR, her third grade classes created and maintained a 20”x 40” Monarch WayStation. In 2017, Lucinda was a recipient of the 23rd Annual Secretary’s Awards for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education for creating her Adopt-a-Herring curriculum. After recently retiring following 45 years of teaching, first at Falmouth High School, then in Texas and coming full circle back to Wareham and Bourne, she has embraced volunteering with the Coonamessett River Trust, Falmouth Pond Coalition and FMNWR, and looks forward to working on projects that will benefit our planet for years to come.

Tom Fudala: Director, Refuge Historian
Tom has been on the Friends Board of Directors since 1998. As the Mashpee Town Planner from 1984 to 2018, he was key in the Refuge’s creation and has secured over 3000 acres into conservation land. Now retired, Tom continue to be a strong advocate on planning issues for the Refuge and town. Through the years as a Mashpee Resident, he has volunteered on many town committees and conservation groups.

Joan W. Barkin: Director, Membership Committee
Joan is a retired M.D. who practiced pediatric and adolescent medicine for 45+ years in Massachusetts and then Maryland. She is an avid gardener who maintained a 2-acre garden including perennials, wildflowers, native and flowering trees, as well as an array of vegetables. Prior to moving to Mashpee with her husband 2 years ago she was a Board member of the Friends of Historic Great Falls Tavern in Potomac, MD, an organization that coordinated with the National Park Service in maintaining and supporting a section of the 184 ¼ mile C&O Canal. Besides gardening, her hobbies include history, kayaking, bicycling, book club, and travel with friends and family. Four grandchildren keep her involved.

Neil J. Barkin: Director, Membership Committee
Neil is a retired orthopaedic surgeon who practiced first in Gloucester, MA then, for the past 40 years in the Washington D.C. suburbs specializing in joint replacement and sports medicine. For over 35 years he has enjoyed vacationing with his wife and children at their vacation home in Mashpee and then upon semi-retiring he relocated to Mashpee full time. He enjoys the outdoors utilizing the 4 distinct seasons to enjoy sailing, tennis, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, and swimming. Along with his wife, Joan, he is pleased to be able to contribute to the Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge as a replacement to his Board involvement with the Friends of the Historic Great Falls Tavern, also working with the National Park Service along the C&O Canal in Potomac, MD.

Nancy Church: Director
Nancy joined the Board in 2013 and was elected president of the organization in October of 2018 through November 2019. She recently retired from the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (WBNERR) as their K-12 Educator and Interpretive Services Coordinator. WBNERR is one of the Refuge Partners.

Katelyn Cadoret: Director
Katelyn has been a member of the Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge since October 2015. She officially became a board member in August 2017 where she served as a liaison for the Town of Mashpee in her position as the Assistant Conservation Agent.  She also served on the Mashpee Environmental Oversight Committee.  Her educational background is in environmental studies which included a Field Internship position at the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and a Field Assistant/Crew Leader for Mass Audubon’s Coastal Shorebird Program. Katelyn coordinated Mashpee Conservation volunteer organizations such as the Mashpee Land Stewards and AmeriCorps Cape Cod to help maintain the Refuge pollinator gardens. Katelyn was a driving force in coordinating our efforts and the town’s resources in order to optimize outreach and foster stewardship for the Refuge within Mashpee.

Mary M. Scanlan, Emeritus Director
Mary was an original member of the Friends organization, who first served as a biological inventory volunteer, then as Membership Director, and lastly our Treasurer from 2004-2012.  She was our first recipient of the David R. Palmer Conservation Stewardship Award. A retired social worker, Ms. Scanlan has been very active in the Mashpee community, serving on the Town’s Beautification Committee for 10 years, the local Habitat for Humanity chapter, as Treasurer of the Mashpee Conservation Corps for 18 years and as a member of the Town’s Human Services Committee for 13 years, from 2000 to 2013. Mary passed away in 2020, but her legacy lives on.

David Vieira, Emeritus Director
David served as President from 2004-2011. He is currently a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the 3rd Barnstable district. He is also a Falmouth town meeting member and has been Moderator of that body since 1998.
